CHARLES BARKLEY RELEASES PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR SOS COUNCIL: “WE HAVE WHAT WE NEED TO SAVE OURSELVES”

[Birmingham, AL] Legendary NBA player and NBA on TNT Charles Barkley today released a Public Service Announcement with the SOS Council – an initiative of Black leaders in tech, business, health, culture, and sports who are concerned about the health of Black Americans during the COVID-19 Crisis.

Barkley’s SOSCouncil PSA is being widely released across social media channels, and will be supported by small advertising spends on multiple platforms.

This PSA aims to drive Black Americans to participate in the SOS Council’s first-of-its-kind study of the Black American COVID19 experience. Study participants have an option to get matched with a Black doctor offering telemedicine services, and the study will be used to drive resources where they are needed most. Data analysis will be done at SOS Council partner Morehouse School of Medicine.

We’ve seen the news and it isn’t good: a history of inequality in health care access, health care treatment, and health outcomes has led to Black Americans dying of COVID-19 at nearly double the rate of other communities.

Here’s my good news: we have what we need in our community to save our lives.

We need more data, more resources, and better policy.

That’s why I’m asking you to join me on the SOS Council. Take the survey at soscouncil.com. Speak up for what you need, and get matched with a Black doctor for telemedicine services.

I believe in this effort and believe it can make a difference. Please join me at soscouncil.com.
